History

Fall for the Book is entering its fifteenth year! Starting as a two-day literary event in 1999 organized by George Mason University and the City of Fairfax, Fall for the Book has expanded into a week-long, multiple-venue, regional festival.

Our Goal

Our goal is to bring to bring authors from diverse genres to our region. Unfortunately, the current economic crisis and the rising costs of the festival make it difficult to host these cherished writers.

More than ever before, we count on the generosity of supporters like you to help bring together readers and writers of all ages.

Reserve free advanced tickets to major events (for members who join after August 15, 2013, this benefit will apply to the 2014 festival)
Purchase tickets for VIP Receptions before tickets are available to the public

Receive a Friends E-Newsletter, where you can stay up to date with Fall for the Book festival plans and other news from the literary world.

Every year Fall for the Book connects the broader Fairfax (or DC metro area) with wonderful authors like Alice Walker, Neil Gaiman, Michael Chabon, Stephen King, Amy Tan, Rae Armantrout, Michael Cunningham, Alan Shapiro, Chinua Achebe, Sherman Alexie, Khaled Hosseini, Ann Patchett, Natasha Trethewey, C.K. Williams, Doris Kearns Goodwin, and many more!

Support Fall for the Book Today

Member dues and contributions are crucial to our efforts to keep Fall for the Book free and open to the public.

The best way you can support the festival is to become a member of the “Friends of Fall for the Book.” We suggest an annual contribution of $200 but donations of any amount are appreciated. The minimum fee for membership is $35.

When you give to Fall for the Book, your gift will have a meaningful, enduring impact right in your own neighborhood. Your tax-deductible donation will preserve our tradition of celebrating the literary arts in our area.
