Become a “Friend” of the Festival

Fall for the Book is entering its thirteenth year! We have come a long way from our humble beginnings as a two-day literary event: we’ve grown into a week-long festival hosting 150 authors and spanning across the DC Metro and Northern Virginia areas.

We’ve done this because of the support of the dedicated patrons like you who attend the festival. Thank you for your interest and involvement with the festival!

This summer, we launched a Friends of Fall for the Book group, and we’d love to get as many people involved in the group as possible. Membership includes great benefits:

  1. Reserve free advanced tickets for major events (this benefit will apply to next year’s festival for all members who join after July 31, 2011)
  2. Purchase tickets for the VIP Reception with Amy Tan before tickets are open to the public (see below).
  3. Enjoy reserved VIP seating at major events — just show your “Friends” ID for premium access.
  4. Receive a Friends E-Newsletter, where you can make suggestions about authors to invite to future festivals

As you know, each year Fall for the Book connects you with the authors that you love. You might remember visits from Chinua Achebe, Sherman Alexie, Khaled Hosseini, C.K. Williams, Doris Kearns Goodwin, and many many others.

Our goal is to bring you more of your favorite authors in diverse genres from historical nonfiction to young adult literature. Unfortunately, the current economic crisis and the rising costs of the festival make it difficult to host these cherished writers.

So, the best way for you to support the festival is to become a member of the Friends of Fall for the Book. We suggest that folks give an annual contribution of $200. The minimum fee for membership is $35. Anything that you can give is great! Your tax-deductible donation will preserve our tradition of celebrating the literary arts in our area.

To join: simply donate through the PayPal or Google Checkout buttons you see here. Or, you may mail in a check to the address listed on this page. (If you do mail in a check, make sure that you add your email address so that we may contact you to ensure you receive all the benefits that membership entails.)

VIP Reception

Fall for the Book will host receptions for Amy Tan, the 2011 Fairfax Prize winner, prior to her appearance at the festival. Participants will enjoy food, wine and the opportunity to chat with her in a more intimate setting — plus the satisfaction of contributing to the success of the festival, as proceeds from these events support future programming.
