Fred Bowen writes sports fiction with a twist: each story weaves a little real sports history into a fast-moving plot, and includes a bonus history chapter at the back. The new Fred Bowen Sports Stories Series (6 titles and growing; Peachtree Publishers) and his earlier All-Star Sports Story Series (9 titles in all; Peachtree Publishers) is for ages 8+. He is also the author of a picture-book biography of Red Sox legend Ted Williams, No Easy Way (Dutton Children's Books), which Booklist named a Top Ten Sports Book for Youth. In addition to his books, Bowen writes a weekly sports column for kids in The Washington Post. For 13 years, Bowen coached kids' baseball and basketball teams. Some of his stories spring directly from his coaching experience; others spring from his sports-happy childhood in Marblehead, Massachusetts. He has a degree in history from the University of Pennsylvania and a law degree from George Washington University. He was a lawyer for many years before retiring early to become a full-time children's author. He lives in Silver Spring, Maryland, with his wife Peggy Jackson. They have two grown children.
